Builder options: what is actually worth it?
Builder options are not simply “good” or “overpriced”. The useful question is what you are paying extra for — timing, convenience, specification, warranty or work that is difficult to retrofit.

The convenience hurdle
If the builder is only slightly more expensive than a comparable independent option, it takes very little convenience to justify the premium. If the premium is large, the convenience benefit must be large too. That is why a builder option can be dearer and still be a rational choice.
